Build an Egyptian Pyramid Game

Summary:I give my students a day to play the game in class and then they have to use it to create a "How To Build A Pyramid" guide. Note that I do NOT tell them the process. I have students write down the choices they make as they go so if they have to go back and replay it (and they will) they will not make the same mistakes twice. Some students will have to play this game upwards of 5 to 10 times before they get it right. This can be frustrating but as I tell my students, "You are doing exactly what the Egyptians did, trying to do something without a step by step guide already built for you. The first pyramids were a mess, and usually collapsed before long. Your trial and error is what the Egyptians did and it will lead to your pyramids being strong." As a means of differentiating, and for students who continue to have a hard time with the simulation, I provide handouts which are basically hints as to what choices they should make.
For the sake of sharing this lesson, I have created a Mimio file that contains this information. I think in the future I will be using this myself!
NOTE: THE GAME ITSELF IS AN ADOBE FLASH FILE SO MAKE SURE YOUR COMPUTERS AND YOUR INTERNET FILTERS (IF APPLICABLE) SUPPORT THE USE OF THIS FILE TYPE.
