Students define tessellations, look at some art of tessellations. Then they figure out which shapes (specifically polygons, but I threw in a circle and oval) tessellate. Then they create their own tessellations out of polygons. Images of examples provided.

tessellations

This page is awesome. I love teaching my first graders about tessallations but have not found a quality teaching aid to go with my teaching. Well, I have just found it. I am very excited about using this page in my classroom with my students. It is very engaging and I really liked how they were able to be interactive.
