What is the best way to run an Inclusion classroom?

I have been teaching Inclusion Social Studies with an Intervention Specialist for the past ten years. During that time we have tried several models for how best to make this type of educational setting work for our students. I have found that some of these models have worked better than others.

I am interested in finding out if anyone knows of "the best" model for an Inclusion setting. I am especially interested in how planning, lesson modifications, and team teaching work under your model.

I am also very interested in finding out how resource periods are structured. Are they run as classrooms, or assisted study halls?

I have taught inclusion

I have taught inclusion classrooms most of my career but now I am attempting to find ways to help a visually impaired student in 5th grade Social Studies. I know that interactive whiteboard have benefited in the past. He does not read braille due to lack of sensitivity in fingers and cannot read print unless it is enlarged considerablly.

The best way to teach special education students, is to find how each child learns. There is no one way, Each child learns differently.

special needs students

I am almost finished with my 9th week of mimio training. I just have the last one to go to which I believe is on ink capture. Anyway, I'm looking for advice as well when it comes to teaching middle and high school special needs students. I guess total involvement with interactice lessons is the way to go. any ideas and suggestions will be appreciated....thanks., Marco

The Inclusive classroom

Their really isn't a best model but there are several ways to approach meeting the needs of your students.

Consider many of the strategies suggested by people who teach by Universal Design.

You don't say where you are from, but a good place to start is with Manitoba's document entitled: Success for All Learners: A Handbook on Differentiating Instruction, a support document released by Manitoba Education and Youth in 1996, for more information. This document is available for purchase from the Manitoba Text Book Bureau. It will need to be ordered from out textbook bureau.

These are blackline masters of some of the strategies.

Question:

I'd like to create some Valentine's Day lessons that have heart shaped reveals. Are there any heart-shaped reveals in the Mimio gallery?

Thank you for such a creative question. This is something that I'm sure many of our community members could benefit from as they design their Valentine's lessons too! There is a gallery of fun...
