Technology Resources

A resource our district has used the last several years is http://www.discoveryeducation.com/. Specifically, we use the DE Science portion. (I am a science teacher. And, it is not a free site but they are more reasonable than most textbook adoptions.) I noticed you are Language Arts teacher and so you probably do not have the need I do for the whole site. But they offer articles for reading that could help supply some of the technical reading students need. Another advantage of this site is that they are constantly updating their material so that it is relevant.
And for other science teachers reading this thread, the following site is an awesome free site for virtual labs: http://phet.colorado.edu/

Photofiltre

Photofiltre at http://photofiltre.en.softonic.com is a free image editor that is a great alternative to Photoshop. I use it to remove the white box around images. Just paste the image in the work area and click on Transparent Color Tool. Click through a couple of dialogue boxes and save as a .png file. Works for images and text.

Google Google and Google

With a powerful search tool like google our resources are unlimited. You can always use the search engine to find websites to help enhance your lessons. I like to use google images a lot. I use copy and paste but screen clipping will work the same. There is also advanced search. With advanced search I like to find two types of files 1) PDFs - there are alwasy great activity sheets and a lot of books in PDF format 2) .swf (flash file) - There is an unknown number of flash games and activities on the web.11
