My Flash Method

There are a variety of methods that allow you to bring in interactive Flash files from outside sources. Be aware that not all flash files can be downloaded by design and is a good idea to cite your source in your file to give due credit as well as to remember where you got it from in case you need to go back. One method I've used utilizes the web browser Firefox and add-ons that you can get at no cost. I've had the best luck with this method as a PC user. When viewing a website with Flash animation in Firefox, click on Tools>Page Info and then click the Media tab. Scroll through the list and if the Flash object is isolated, you can select it and click the Save As button to save to your computer and then import right into MimioStudio using the Insert>File method. There are always tricks to doing things better so please share with the community if something works for you!

I've also created a lesson that will show you how to do. Download the file from http://mimioconnect.com/content/lesson/increasing_interactivity_flash_an...

Love Flash

I love Flash animation and I learned how to download the files in Firefox in my Mimio Level 1 class. I can’t believe how easy it was. I have had the best of luck with that. GREAT info. Flash can add so much to the lesson. It is amazing what you can do with mimio. Love it.

Flash issues

I was reading your post and the related comments to try to get some insight as to why the flash files were not working on two different pc's I've been using. I would really like to use them in my files. I read about unstalling the latest version of flash and going to 10.1. I will try this and hope it works. Thanks for the information and the help.

Flash

I never would have guessed that capturing Flash was this streamlined. However, when I created a countdown widget and went to the tools --> page info --> media page, there were several different flash files to choose from. So I just embedded the countdown ticker in my blog and then I was able to easily find the swf file I wanted.

basics of the most basic

I've tried the "ask a master" as well as responding in email to others that seem NOT to have the answers to the questions.

Simply put, flash does not work. And yes FLASH is installed on my computer. Everything works on my computer. As a matter of fact I'm pretty proficient with computers, networking, technology and other things related to electronics. As a matter of fact I spent several years as a programmer.
SO.. when I DL one of the .ink files, why does it tell me FLASH is not installed?

Flash

Flash animation is something that can liven up a fairly bland lesson and make it very exciting, It also makes the students more engaged in the lesson. Using flash in science can help drive home points about topics that are difficult for many students. It also is great because it can be loaded on a website accessible to the students and they can review it to grasps concepts better. It only takes finding flash animations in the galleries, mimioconnect or the world wide web and you can liven up almost any lesson.

Flash

I'm new to the mimio and its software.
I downloaded studio7 and installed it. Everything seems to work fine.
I also downloaded some of the samples, they're ink files. When I try to click on some of the content it tells me i need flash.
I'm computer literate..and then some.
Flash is installed so this isn't the problem. why won't studio allow or use the flash content?
Where can I go for some great tutorials?

WOW

I downloaded the flash lesson you created, and I am so amazed at what all was on their. I really wanted to learn more about using flash in my lessons, and this has really helped. The only flash files I have used in my lesson so far that I found on the internet were flash backgrounds and some flash clip art files. I really liked the math fact fish game that was in your lesson. I'm going to use that in a math lesson next week.

flash

I have never tried adding flash animation to anything in Mimio. I have used it in Power Point slides before and it certainly keeps the student's attention. I hope to give this a try soon. It's nice to see there's a forum for help.

Downloading Flash on a Mac Using Safari

If you use the Safari web browser (3.2.1 or later) on a Mac, here is an easy way to download Flash files to your computer.

1.Open your Safari web browser and go to Google.com. Click on "Advanced Search".

2.Type your search term(s) in the "all these words" box. Near the bottom, in the box next to "File Type", click on "any format." Select the very last choice, "Shockwave Flash (.swf)." Click the Advanced Search button. All of your results will be Flash (.swf) files.

3.In the Google search results, click the title of the search result you wish to access.

4.You will now be on the web page where your flash file is located.

5.In your menu bar, click "Window." Drag to and click on "Activity."

6.You will see a list of recently downloaded flash files in the Activity window, including the one you just searched for. Holding down the Option key, double-click the .swf file you want to download.

7.Your "Downloads" window will appear and the file will be downloaded and saved to your Desktop.

8.You can now INSERT your flash file into Mimio Notebook.

Downloading Flash on a Mac using Safari

Thank you so much for laying out the directions in a step to step format. I have tried to use Flash in my Mimios and it would work on my PC's in school but not on my Mac at home. If I download flash on my mac using Safari and save it to my flash drive will it work using Internet Explorer in school?
The children love the math game I did in school and I'm always looking for more bells and whistles to jazz up my children and engage them.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the Mac Safari info

I have been working on a Mac and didn't know where to find the .swf files using Safari (so I occasionally use Firefox). But I never would have thought of using Google Advanced Search. Good idea! I will definitely give it a try. Thanks!

Flashy

I'm new to mimio and hesitant to try "new" things, but the flash files look so fun. I really appreciate your directions, and especially the lesson that you created. That is a great help, and gives me the confidence to try this! Thanks so much.

Using Google Chrome to save flash files

Google Chrome (browser) is very easy to use to save flash files. First, use the Advanced Search feature (of the Google search engine) to search for only flash files (select Shockwave Flash (.swf) in the File type field of the Advanced Search). From your search results, select the flash file you want to use. (It is a good idea to check copyright to make sure this file is OK to use.) Once you have found the flash file you want to use, right-click on that link on the Google search results page. Left click on "Save Link As." Navigate to where you want the file saved, renaming it if you wish. If you look at the type of file you are saving, it must say, Shockwave Flash. Use the Insert icon on the Mimio Floating toolbar to insert the flash file into your Mimio lesson.

NOTE: Not all flash files are able to be downloaded. That is why it is important to check the type of file you are saving. Make sure it says "Shockwave Flash" in the "Save as type" box when you save it.

flash

Travis,
I am so excited! Kind of like an -ah, hah moment in teaching. I have an incredible number of flash files, but now I will have to get permission to post them. It is really addicting! BUT I can't get an HTML file into the lesson. Any ideas? Thanks,

Inserting files in Mimio

Using MimioStudio software, you are easily able to bring in your existing Powerpoint, Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat files as well as interactive Flash animations, graphics, sounds, and movie files. In order to do this, simply click Insert > File and then browse your computer to locate the file you want to bring in. Your files will be inserted and you'll be ready to go. If you have any other questions, please let me know. :)

Another way to download Flash files

If you're using Firefox, just right click on the background of the page (not on the flash part) and select "View Page Info". Then click on the media tab, and a list of the files on the page will come up. Click on the flash file you want (ending in .swf) and then click on save and tell it where to save to. Easy! :D

It works great! Do you know

It works great!
Do you know if it can be done with other browsers (Chrome, Safari)?
Also, if you're a Mac user and your flash animations aren't working search "flash"
on this page:
http://uk.mimio.com/en-GB/Support/Search-Support-RightNow.aspx
The first hit will show you how to fix it. (sorry i didn't include the direct link but the address doesn't change when you search)

Saludos!

Speedy Flash

Thank you for your quicker way of saving flash files. I was a bit apprehensive initially with adding flash backgrounds to my files. This way is very slick and easy. I can now devote ten minutes to looking for flash files and know that it is not going to be a huge time consumer getting them saved. Much appreciated

Excited to jazz up my lessons!

I am really excited to try ALL of the ideas that you have all posted in this forum. I LOVE adding flash files to my presentations and all of the comments and feedback here have answered a lot of me "where?" and "how?" questions. I have done several different searchers for flash drives but have never really known where to start. The FlashGot program on FireFox has been great! Thank you!!
