How to Play Video in MimioStudio software

For multimedia files to play in MimioStudio 8, Mimio will use the codecs from the default multimedia programs such as Windows Media Player (.wmv) or Quicktime (.mov). It will also take advantage of any other codecs that are installed within these programs for other file types. In order to play various file types, you will need to download the proper codecs. Follow appropriate link below:

Embedding Video

I also recently saw a mimio lesson with several videos already embedded. I did spend quite some time trying to figure out how it was done, but I kept encountering difficulties with the browser I was using and/or my version of java. I even tried a site recommended by a master called: http://www.savevid.com/# but it didn't work out. I will definitely need to spend several hours to figure this out, in the mean time, hyperlinking still works!
Finally, I wondered if there is a difference if you are using Mimio 10? All of the comments were really helpful.

As a science teacher I show

As a science teacher I show many short videos that I find online. Occasionally after finding a "perfect video" it is gone the next time I want to use it. Also sometimes the overload on our network can result in long buffering delays. I wasn't aware that I could imbed the video right in the .ink file. I am anxious to give this a try. Thanks for the great advice.

Showing short videos

Great ideas and comments on the issue(s) of showing videos in class. It's definitely important to show short clips and any time you can minimize delay by embedding video in your presentation you SHOULD :-)
Not to mention, any time you (as the instructor) are focused on changing the display or searching for your link you risk students taking advantage and getting or causing a distraction.

The video can disappear from the Internet...

With the videos is accomplished students' attention. Students gain a more realistic view of a situation. Can not take the student to the volcano, the estudainte see the volcano erupting in a video.
It is very important to have them on the computer because the video can also disappear from the Internet and present it takes more time from the Internet. Thank you very much, I'm going to download it.

The idea of saving video files into my mimio lessons is intriguing. Video is a great tool for getting the students interested in a lesson. I usually just hyperlink my video, but then I am dependent on whether or not the internet is slow or not working, or if the video has been removed from the site. This is definitely something that I will put some further effort into.

Dependency on internet is an issue for me as an itinerant teacher. It would be great to save the video rather than hyperlink. I too will be experimenting with the process for better lesson development.

I've got VLC set as my

I've got VLC set as my default media player, and I love it because it plays so many formats and is quick. I've found (HD) video embedded in Mimio jerky, so what I do it attach the video to my notebook file, and add a video icon when it's time to show the video. I then hyperlink the video icon to the attached video file. And then all I do is click on the icon, and the video pops up and plays in VLC. Perfect.

File Size Concerns

I love using video in my classroom! I had to resort to downloading videos I wanted to use because the school server is so slow! When I started to use Mimio this past Spring, I saved some of these in my Mimio lesson. My concern is that when I include videos in my .ink files, the files become SO LARGE that there are troubles uploading, saving, sharing, etc. One "work around" that I've used is to save the video file in my DropBox account, then link that file as a hyper-link in the Mimio file - DropBox permits users to create a url for every file uploaded.

I always struggle with adding video because the formats I select never seem to be compatible. Your information will make it much easier to add video without all the technical headaches I usually experience. Thanks!

This is a really helpful tip, thank you Paul. I think short videos are a great components to plug into a mimio lesson. This information you have shared will make it so I don't have technical problems when launching a file- as long as I download both codecs for each classroom I use, each semester (college, we rotate classrooms).

I have encounter a situation

I have encountered a situation that I can't find a solution for. I want to put an flv (Flash video format) in a Mimio Studio 8 file. I get an error message that says I don't have the proper codec. I do, however, have the Adobe Media Player (my default flv media player) and work with flv videos all the time. I also encountered the same issue with quicktime (mov) files. Any thoughts?

Codecs

I'm interested in what codecs are and whether you are playing full length videos or ones from learn 360 or discovery education. I have been able to successfuly use the mimio as a projector, or hyperlink things to my mimio page to have them play on my whiteboard.

Videos

When I find a video or clip that i want to use in a lesson, I download it to realplayer (if that option is available) then use 'insert-> file' to place the video on my page in MimioStudio. Most Dicovery Education videos and clips have the 'Download This Video' option. If you are getting a error report when trying to play video, then the Codec download will allow you to play videos.
